Hi Drew, what do you think about the concept of effective/stimulating reps that is gaining traction at the moment from the likes of Chris Beardsley and Borge fagerli etc ?
They assume you need more than one set. They’re wrong. In the long run performing multiple sets isn’t going to provide better results, and may be counterproductive depending on the total volume of your workouts.

The whole maximum effort 5 second isometric contraction thing seems to get reinvented every few years, going back to Charles Atlas and bullworkers. In my experience most trainees will see a rapid increase in static strength which is probably largely neural and that’s it. It is definitely not very safe or effective long term in my opinion. The machine looks like a massive waste of money too
These short statics will also stimulate hypertrophy, but timed static contractions are much safer. Ken Hutchins, myself, and others have been using and teaching TSC for years with good results.

Hi drew. I’ve seen the marketing stuff for this machine and the thing isn’t cheap. For the asking price I’d expect to see some independent studies and case histories showing the effectiveness of the machine and the protocol. This type of all out, very brief static contraction seems to be reinvented every few years. I think Pete Sisco was involved in a ridiculous machine a few years ago but it was a commercial failure.
The protocol is effective for improving muscular strength and size, however, properly performed timed static contractions are just as effective and much safer.
If people are interested in equipment for performing computer feedback statics they’d be better off talking with SuperSlow and RenEx founder Ken Hutchins, who actually knows how to design exercise equipment.

What do you think of osteo strong? It similar. It has published documentation.
I do not recommend it. John Jaquish is a fraud with an MD from a diploma mill and not a legitimate medical doctor.

I do agree with your view on the TSC. I do think the the TSC are the better choice as well, and with free weights for that matter.
Although I would like to try Ken Hutchins machines someday. Unfortunately thier are none like that in the area I live.
As for the VIIV machine, well I dont see why I should pay 15k for an inferior machine. ( I think it may be more now due to Brian Murrays price increase.) My opinion is that it is all a marketing scam.
Just another gimmick!
I have also tried the Iso-chain and feel the same about that as well.
As John stated in the previous reply, it is all about the neological adaptations when it comes the the machines like the VIIV as well as the the isochain and guys like Jaquish. In a very short time the “gains” stop with the gimmicks. At the end of the day it is all about the revenue. Just sayin.
I do also agree with what you said about not needing more than one set in a training routine.
If you need more than one set, you are not training hard enough and you may as well do cardio instead. (Yes, you can train to failure without puking and still be a muscular growth set) Author Jones knew his stuff, but was a little too extreme in some cases.
I could go on and on and should stop now. LOL!
