Bullshit Fat Loss Site Also A Scam

The very same assholes who’s site I wrote about in Bullshit Fat Loss Claims tried to comment spam that post. They wrote,

“Hi, thanks for sharing that post. I have just found your site and You have a new subscriber(me). By the way I’ve been blogging about my own weight loss and
weight loss diet plan
I would really apprectiate it if you could check out my blog and let me know what you think about it.
Thanks,
Joan”

The words “weight loss diet plan” – good keywords if someone is trying to improve their search engine ranking – were linked to the site. Of course, I removed the link. Although I’m sure the average baye.com reader wouldn’t buy into the bullshit they’re promoting, any links to their site would improve their search engine placement and increase the likelihood of others finding it and possibly being suckered. I’m not about to help these assholes dupe anyone.

Here is the URL if anybody wants to read the bullshit for themselves, just to see how ridiculous it is: joansweightloss.com

Just copy and paste the URL into your browser window.

After a bit of searching, I do not believe Joan is a real person. The site appears to be a fake testimonial set up by a company called Nubody, Inc, AKA Extreme Acai Berry in Davie, Florida. They probably have dozens more, and I found spam from them on numerous other weight loss related web sites. Even more interesting, I found several mentions of the company on the Rip Off Report web site. Here is one of the complaints about Extreme Acai Berry:

“After I used my visa to pay the $3.95 shipping and handling for my ‘free trial bottle’ of Acie Berry Power 500, I discovered a consumer complaint online about how the company kept billing her credit card $89.31 a month after the shipping charge, and they would not refund her for returning unopened packages either.

Then, I opened the ‘Terms & Conditions’ link at the Acai Berry Power 500 website and saw with my own eyes what is about to happen to my credit card. You can bet I’ll be on the phone tomorrow during business hours to cancel, but the line will probably be busy or keep me on hold for two hours – there go those peak cell minutes in a hurry!

Here is a pasted copy of the Terms & Conditions:

…by ordering Extreme Acai Berry, I am agreeing to receive Extreme Acai Berry for a free 14-day trial period (days of availability for actual usage could be less depending on shipping time) beginning on date of order. $3.95 (non-refundable) for S&P. I understand that unless I cancel by calling 1-801-208-7485 within this 14-day period, beginning on the 14th day my credit card will automatically be charged $89.31 (Free Shipping) for a 31 day supply of Extreme Acai Berry to be shipped at that time to my door.

Thereafter, until and unless I cancel, my credit card will automatically be charged an additional $89.31 every 31 days for a new supply of Extreme Acai Berry. I understand that I may cancel any future shipments Monday through Friday by calling 1-801-208-7485. Our hours of operation are from 8am to 5pm MST.

We do not accept returns on any products that have been shipped.

Extreme Acai Berry
4650 SW 51st Street

There were also several complaints from people who had swallowed the “free trial” hook and given these assholes their credit card number without reading the terms and conditions. Selling people worthless supplements using bullshit weight loss claims is unethical, but this is outright criminal. According to other complaints, they also share private information with other scam companies. I suspect they are probably all owned by the same person or group. however.

Normally, I wouldn’t bother writing about stuff like this, but these people have really pissed me off. It’s not just the spam – a lot of people attempt to spam the site – but the fact that their claims are so outrageous, and their products are so completely worthless, and their marketing discourages exercise and a change in diet for the people who need it most.

I have worked with hundreds of overweight people over the years, but whenever I hear or read about this kind of thing there is one person who stands out. During his first session we were discussing his goals and he started to go over all of the things he had tried to lose weight, becoming more and more upset with every failure he recalled, until he broke down crying. I was barely able to maintain my composure then, and even now I get upset thinking about it. Then the rage starts welling up. I want to round up all the people selling bullshit weight loss programs and supplements – profiting from the desperation of others – and give them a taste of the pain they’ve been causing others due to disappointment and frustration from having their hopes raised then realizing they’ve wasted more of their time and money on a bunch of worthless bullshit. I want to drive down to Davie, Florida, kick down the door, and run through the Nubody, Inc. offices with a ball peen hammer caving in faces and crushing skulls. I am pissed off.

Of course, I won’t. But I really want to.

Instead, I’ll do my best to hurt them in another way – hurt their sales by informing people about the worthlessness of the bullshit they’re selling and trying to prevent others from being ripped off by them and other unscrupulous bastards.

To end this on a more positive note, the man I mentioned above eventually did lose the weight – through high intensity training and a change in his diet. No bullshit pills, powders or potions. Just hard work in the gym and discipline at the table.

Drew, you rock man! I have been a long time reader of your site but have never commented before. Your site is probably THE BEST and most rock solid factual training and nutrition resource anywhere on the internet. The amazing thing is that you share your incredible knowledge for free and aren’t trying to sell any crappy Ebooks or supplements or anything like that. Keep up the great work man.

To Adam Rigg – Drew will be selling a book, and I hope it’ll be available as an e-book. I hardly read any paper anymore. What’s the point of wasting trees to make paper or energy to recycle various materials into paper when one can do it with electrons, no warehouses, shipping companies charging money, gas used, etc., etc. And Drew’s book will NOT be crappy, I am confident of that.

    David,

I hope the book won’t be crappy, and appreciate your confidence. I don’t currently have plans to make it available as an e-book, however.
